Memphis International Airport announces increases for long-, short-term parking

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (January 15, 2016) – The Memphis International Airport will introduce new parking fees effective February 1, 2016. The new parking fees will include a $4 a day increase to the full per-day rate in long-term parking and a $3 a day increase to the full per-day rate for short-term parking. Hourly rates will not change in any of the airport lots.
The airport’s economy parking, priced at $6 per day, and oversized vehicle parking, which is $12 a day, will remain unchanged. Parking for the first 30 minutes in all lots will remain free.
The parking fees per 24 hours will be as follows:
- Economy Parking (4552 spaces): $6 per day (no change)
- Oversized Parking (180 spaces): $12 per day (no change)
- Long-Term Parking (2225 spaces): $15 per day
- Short-Term Parking (487 spaces): $24 per day
More than 63 percent of the airport’s available parking will be unaffected by the rate changes.
The rate increase represents the first in more than 14 years for the long- and short-term lots. Economy parking was reduced from $8 to $6 per day in 2013.
The rate changes are designed to alleviate capacity issues experienced in the long-term lot, which frequently fills up and reaches capacity. Additional revenues generated by the change will help cover operating and maintenance costs in the fifty-plus-year-old terminal as well as help fund capital improvements such as the current concourse modernization program.
“While we regularly review our parking rates and fees, this represents our first rate increase for the long- and short-term lots since 2001,” said Scott Brockman, President and CEO of the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority. “In addition, our most popular option, our $6 economy parking garage, will remain unchanged.”
The airport also has recently added free Wi-Fi to the cell phone lot and plans to add new parking amenities in the future, such as a frequent parking program.
