Wednesday, November 11, 2015
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (November 11, 2015) – American Airlines has announced that it is adding nonstop service between Memphis International Airport (MEM) and Phoenix International Airport (PHX) beginning March 3, 2016.
The Memphis-Phoenix service will operate once daily. Tickets will go on sale Saturday, November 14. American will utilize 76-seat Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft for the flight.
The addition of a nonstop flight to PHX also creates previously unavailable one-stop connections for Memphis passengers to destinations such as Flagstaff, AZ; Yuma, AZ, Long Beach, CA; Monterey, CA; San Luis Obispo, CA; and Hermosillo, Mexico.
Wednesday’s announcement marks the 12th new air service addition for 2015 at MEM.
“For some time, our passengers have told us that they want more connectivity to the West,” said Pace Cooper, Chairman of the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority (MSCAA) Board of Commissioners. “Today’s announcement is one that our passengers will undoubtedly welcome.”
Scott Brockman, MSCAA President and CEO said, “By adding another daily nonstop option to the West and increasing one-stop options for passengers, this is one of our most significant service additions in recent memory.”
"We thank American Airlines for being a mainstay in our community for decades,” said Shelby County Mayor Mark H. Luttrell, Jr. “The additional nonstop service to Phoenix will certainly enhance business and pleasure travel opportunities at Memphis International Airport."
