MEMPHIS, Tenn. (December 2, 2015) – Memphis International Airport (MEM) is continuing its technology upgrades by expanding free Wi-Fi to its cell phone parking lot, where drivers can wait for the arrival of incoming passengers before pickup.
The Wi-Fi expansion is part of a continuing effort to improve amenities both in the airport and in the cell phone lot, which is located to the right of the main drive that leads to the terminal. The lot also recently received upgrades in the form of flight information displays with arrival times, improved lighting and landscaping.
The airport provides tiered Wi-Fi service through Boingo Wireless, which includes free ad-supported Wi-Fi for all passengers, enabling them to get online quickly and easily to check email, share via social media, and stay entertained during their travels. Passengers can also purchase premium Wi-Fi options for data intensive demands such as streaming video or uploading large files.
MEM has also added a number of technological improvements inside the terminal in 2015, including new flight and baggage information screens, digital advertising displays, and enhanced cell phone data service. MEM was the top rated airport this year in terms of mobile network performance.
“We are committed to improving the customer experience here at MEM, and expanding free Wi-Fi to our cell phone lot gives our guests more options and better access to information,” said Scott Brockman, President and CEO of the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority.
