MEMPHIS, TN – For the sixth consecutive year, the Memphis International Airport and Delta Air Lines will host a “Fantasy Flight” to the “North Pole” for a group of children that includes patients from St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital.
Children will arrive at the airport at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 16 to check in and receive special boarding passes. While they are boarding the plane, they’ll hear the music of the Suzuki Music Makers orchestra. At 4 p.m. they’ll depart from gate B4 on their trip to the North Pole on a plane provided by Delta that will taxi around the airfield before arriving at gate B14 at about 4:45. The trip to the North Pole will include Christmas carols, games and a reading of “Twas the Night Before Christmas.” The plane will be met at the gate with water cannons courtesy of the Memphis Fire Department’s airport unit, and Santa and his elves will greet the children. Other special guests will include River City Balloons, Pouncer from the University of Memphis Tigers, the Chick-Fil-A cow, characters from the movie “Frozen” courtesy of Mirror Mirror Parties, and the West Tennessee Therapy Dogs.
This marks the sixth consecutive year that Delta Air Lines and Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority (MSCAA) employees have coordinated this event.
“We are excited and honored to once again host the Fantasy Flight,” said Scott Brockman, MSCAA President, and CEO. “This event is a labor of love for all of us involved, and we are excited to be a part of it.”
