Triennial Emergency Exercise takes place at MEM

2025 Emergency Exercise

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (October 24, 2025) – The Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority (MSCAA) hosted its 2025 Triennial Full-Scale Emergency Exercise at Memphis International Airport (MEM) on Monday, October 27, 2025.

This year’s exercise brought together hundreds of participants, including emergency responders, volunteers, mutual aid partners and aviation stakeholders. The exercise simulates a large-scale aircraft incident, testing the planning, operational readiness, speed and effectiveness of emergency personnel across multiple agencies in real-time.

Mandated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Triennial is a practical exercise and safety training that takes place at least once every 36 consecutive months at commercial service airports around the United States. Memphis International Airport has chosen to organize these emergency exercises with more frequency than is mandated – once every 24 consecutive months – so that all involved remain at peak readiness should an incident occur.

“The safety of our travelers, employees, airline partners and community is our top priority, and exercises like the Triennial Emergency Exercise is intended to bolster the airport’s commitment to safety and continuous improvement,” said Terry Blue, President and CEO of the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority.
