Memphis International Airport (MEM) is the busiest cargo airport in North America, and the second-busiest in the world. The largest and most notable air cargo operator at MEM is Fedex. The airport coordinates and plan projects with FedEx regularly and works to ensure that the largest cargo contributor can continue to grow and prosper.
FedEx employs more than 11,000 employees at its Memphis hub and has more than 34 million square feet of space under lease on airport property. FedEx operatres almost 400 flights per day, and handles more than 180,000 package and 245,000 documents per hour at its Memphis hub.
United Parcel Service (UPS) also has a significant presence at MEM, with a campus of approximately 134 acres. The footprint of their facilities currently measures 293,000 square feet, and ongoing expansion will soon increase that number to 424,000 square feet. The UPS expansion will up UPS’s packing sorting capability to 59,800 packages per hour. Once expansion is complete, UPS will employ about 950 employees at MEM.
Commercial Leasing
MEM has extensive facilities and distribution options on its doorstep. However, it also offers facilities of its own.
Cargo East features approximately 1.4 million square feet of ramp area. The facility includes more than 36,000 square feet of building space and features a high level of security, cold storage, and hazardous materials storage as well as business-friendly lobbies, reception areas, front office administration and management spaces.
