Partnership includes ACI-NA, VA, University Aviation Association
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (July 18, 2019) – In an effort to prepare military veterans for potential airport-related jobs, Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority (MSCAA) is partnering with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and University Aviation Association to bring the Edge4Vets program to Memphis.
Edge4Vets works in collaboration with Airports Council International-North America (ACI-NA), which represents major commercial airports in the US and Canada, to accelerate veterans into airport workforces. The Edge4Vets program combines workshop training with online instruction to teach veterans how to translate their military strengths, including values and skills, into tools for the airport and business workforces, then connects them with program partner jobs.
Founded in 2011, Edge4Vets is a program created by the Human Resiliency Institute at Fordham University in New York.
The program in Memphis will launch with an orientation workshop for airport and community employers on August 8. On October 1, MSCAA will host a job preparation workshop for local veterans.
“We’re thrilled to play a role in this amazing partnership,” said Scott Brockman, MSCAA President and CEO. “We hope that all of the employers here at the airport and throughout the community join us in connecting veterans with local job opportunities.”
“Edge4Vets gives veterans what business leaders say they need most: that’s training to translate their military skills into tools for civilian success,” said Tom Murphy, Director of the Director Human Resiliency Institute at Fordham University. “Then we connect them to human resources reps in our employer network who can offer them jobs that lead to careers.”
Businesses interested in participating in the August 8 orientation can learn more by emailing info@flymemphis.com. Veterans who are interested in the October 1 workshop can register at www.edge4vets.org.
