MEMPHIS, TN (April 25, 2017) – For the 17th consecutive quarter, the year-over-year average airfares at Memphis International Airport (MEM) have dropped, according to the Department of Transportation (DOT). The DOT’s fourth quarter 2016 average airfare report reflects an average airfare of $374.42 at MEM, a drop of more than $19 compared to the 4th quarter 2015 (inflation adjusted).
The average airfare at MEM has now dropped by more than $176 (inflation-adjusted) since its peak in 2012.
Pace Cooper, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority, said “We are thrilled to see our continued trend of falling average airfares at MEM. This trend, coupled with our added destinations and seats, has led to steady passenger growth numbers. We continue to pursue additional frequent and affordable air service.”
