MEMPHIS, Tenn. (March 22, 2024) – Memphis International Airport (MEM) has received $5 million in federal funding toward the design and construction of a Snow Removal Equipment (SRE) Facility. This funding was included in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2024 signed into law on March 9, 2024.
MEM ranks as the number one cargo airport in North America, number two cargo airport in the world, and served 4.8 million commercial passengers in 2023. The facility will provide protection of MEM’s SRE from year-round weather conditions, including Ultraviolet (UV) exposure, to maintain to its maximum useful life for future winter weather events. This community project funding will keep runways clear during winter conditions so airline carriers can safely operate at MEM.
