End of Year Holiday Travel Tips to ReMEMber

Christmas decor in terminal

Tis the season for holiday travel and Memphis International Airport (MEM) is expecting thousands of travelers for the upcoming holiday.

During the 11-day Thanksgiving Holiday Travel period, over 90,000 passengers passed through MEM’s TSA checkpoints. The peak day was Friday, November 22 with 10,413 people screened.

To ease travel during the most wonderful time of the year from curb to gate, here are a few tips to re”MEM”ber.

  • Be sure to plan ahead and arrive two hours prior to your flight. If flying with children, the elderly, or others that may need assistance, arrive even earlier. Expect lines and ensure your luggage and your holiday gifts will clear security without delays.
  • Security is important. Know the security requirements ahead of time. Have your boarding pass and identification ready. Leave prohibited items at home. Not sure what is allowed through the checkpoint? Contact @AskTSA on Facebook and Twitter or use the “What Can I Bring?” feature at www.tsa.gov
  • Wrap presents at your destination. If a wrapped package causes an alarm in security, it will have to be unwrapped for inspection.
  • Relax and enjoy your travel experience. Time will pass quickly with our MEMorable amenities. Try a craft beer or shop while you wait for your flight to board. Take time to enjoy the many works of art all over the terminal or watch the planes arrive and depart. We also have a designated lounge for military service members and their families, multiple Mother’s Rooms for nursing moms, and animal relief areas for pets and service animals.
  • Free WiFi is throughout the airport and and charging stations can be found at every gate seat and lounge area.
