Tunnel between Terminal B & Pedestrian Plaza closed through Spring 2026

The next phase of our Terminal Modernization project is moving ahead of schedule. Effective October 21, 2025, the Pedestrian Tunnel between Terminal B and the Pedestrian Plaza is closed until Spring 2026.

The Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority (MSCAA) held its 2025 Triennial Full-Scale Emergency Exercise at Memphis International Airport (MEM) on Monday, October 27, 2025. This year’s exercise brings together hundreds of participants, including emergency responders, volunteers, mutual aid partners and aviation stakeholders.

MEM expects approximately 51,000 people to pass through checkpoint for Fall Break travel period

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) expects an estimated 51,000 people to pass through the checkpoint at Memphis International Airport (MEM) during the 2025 Fall Break travel period, which will take place between October 9-13. This represents an increase of about six percent compared to Fall Break 2024. The peak days are projected to be October 9, 10 and 12 with approximately 11,000 people passing through the checkpoint each day.

Upper Outer Drive Demolition - September 2025

MEM on the Move: Demolition of upper outer drive underway as lower level commercial lane opens

In the most visible show of terminal modernization yet, demolition of the upper outer drive began in mid-September to allow for construction of a new upper commercial drive. As the old drive started to come down, the new, lower-level commercial lane opened inside the three story garage to accommodate taxis, limos, ride-app users, and shuttles. Bright orange signage along every path and corridor help to direct passengers to the new commercial vehicle pick-up and drop-off lane.

Inaugural Memphis International Airport Runway 5K draws 900 participants

More than 900 people participated in the inaugural Memphis International Airport (MEM) MEM Runway 5K on Saturday, September 20. The event allowed runners to experience a race on one of MEM’s runways, providing rare inside views of an airport that serves nearly 5 million passengers annually and ranks among one of the busiest cargo airports in world.

Starting Tuesday, September 9, ride app operations will be moved to Memphis International Airport’s arrivals level, outside the C baggage claim area. The move is related to construction for Memphis International Airport’s Terminal Modernization and Seismic Program (TMSP) and the opening of a new commercial lane on the arrivals level.

Allegiant launches seasonal nonstop service between Memphis and Knoxville

Allegiant Air launched its inaugural nonstop service between Memphis International Airport (MEM) and McGhee Tyson Airport (TSY) on Thursday, September 4. The flight arrived from Knoxville at approximately 7:59 pm, with the initial departure from Memphis scheduled for 8:49 pm. The seasonal service is scheduled to run through December 1, 2025.
