MEM on the Move: Construction to affect airport crosswalk access, departure drop-off starting June 4

TMSP Speed Tables

MEMPHIS, TN (May 30, 2025) — Ongoing construction for Memphis International Airport’s Terminal Modernization and Seismic Program (TMSP) project will affect pedestrian crosswalk access and departure level entrances beginning Wednesday, June 4.

Speed Table B Construction GraphicsStarting June 4, pedestrians entering the airport from the departures/ticketing level will need to utilize the crosswalks at the A and C terminals to enter the terminal. The arrivals/baggage level will not be affected. On June 2 and 3 there will be sporadic lane closures on the outer drive as prep work is completed for this project.

This phase of the project is expected to be completed by the end of June with all crosswalks and departure level drives open for the July 4 travel period.

The outer drive on the departures level will remain open for passenger drop off as well as ride share operations while construction takes place on the inner drive. Wayfinding signage around the airport property and facilities will be in place to inform and guide travelers. Additionally, MEM employees and volunteers will continue to be strategically positioned to assist passengers.

The TMSP project is part of an extensive multi-year project that will invest more than $700 million in facility improvements for MEM passengers. It is the largest capital project in MEM’s history. Project funding will include general airport revenue bonds, state and federal grants, passenger facility charges (PFCs) and other Authority capital funds. No city or county tax dollars will be used to fund the project.

Early phases of the project include the addition of a commercial lane on the baggage level and the replacement of the outer drive on the ticketing/departures level. These early phases will pave the way for the modernization of the ticketing and baggage areas.
